Brian and Jenn- Sarnia Wedding Preshoot

I met with Brian and Jenn before their wedding to get to know them and for me to hear a little bit about their ideas for their wedding. One of their requests was to have some photos taken outside of the highschool where they met. When we looked at the schedule of their wedding day, we knew we wouldn’t have time to take pictures at the school the day of, so we arranged to meet ahead of time for a pre-shoot.

When I can have time with a couple to have a relaxed session with lots of laughs before the day of the wedding, it bodes very well for the “big day.”

I look forward to being a part of your wedding in a few days!

Peace ;) .

Stock

A few weeks ago I connected with a couple of my friends to do some stock-style images. They were good sports and came up with some creative ideas! These are some of my favorites…

Strobe Night

What do photographers do to have fun? They goof around with other photographers.

Here are my favorite photos from our first “Strobe Night,” earlier this week. We had some fun with high-key lighting.

I couldn’t resist putting the Abercrombie and Fitch coloring on a couple of these, Nathan had the look down. I found models for their next high fashion photo shoot. Thanks to Nic, Hailey and Nathan for being both photographers & models, they were brilliant.

And this, my friends, is why I am not a model… I have an uncanny knack for blinking whenever the flash goes off.

Thank goodness I know how to play the kazoo.

School Photos

Whenever you ask my son to smile for the camera, his best attempt is something akin to swallowing marbles coupled with having his cheeks pinched. The whole “natural smile” thing hasn’t evolved for him yet. So when we got his school pictures home the other day it wasn’t a total surprise that my wife considered them “sub-par” for family gifts. They are hilarious, and grandma would probably laugh and think they are cute, but alas they did not pass the mom-ometer test.

So what can you do? Well if you’re us, you fake it ;) . I got some studio lights last month and have been busy and haven’t had much of a chance to start using them, so this was a great excuse. We set up a blanket in the kitchen, dressed the man up and sat him on a stool and tried to make him forget that we were taking his picture. I don’t know what the school photographers problem was, we got some good photos…. it only took me 37 exposures to get these good ones. I guess they don’t have time to photograph each kid 37 times. Oh well.

Trees

When you drive the 401 through Ontario, every once in a while you’ll see this unusual looking species of tree. I’ve always found them to be very striking against the horizon and have often thought, “I should stop and take a snap of those because they are interesting.”

But generally as I’ve passed by these trees, I’ve been riding with someone else and it’s not easy to say, “hey can we stop for a minute, I want to take a picture of a tree”. There is some weirdness that’s just better to keep to yourself. But on Friday I was headed to northern Ontario, I had my camera and I was by myself. So public display of weirdness not required, I was able to stop and take some pictures.

The sky was overcast and just about to snow (in April!), so I had great conditions to shoot in to highlight the silhouette of these cool trees.

If you happen to know what kind of tree this is, please comment because I’m curious.

Shoes @ 144 Front

The ladies at Shoes @ 144 Front needed a couple of product shots for their website and ads, so last week it gave me a chance to try my hand at taking some product shots for them.

A huge thanks to my friend Troy of Trantz Photography who patiently helped me tweak lighting, held a portable strobe for hair-light, let me use his Alien Bees lighting setup, and checked shots to help me make sure I was getting what I needed for my client.

We had a blast and the following are a few of the shots we got. I love it.

MorningStar Arts

My mom is starting a jewelery business. She’s designed some really unique clay jewelery so she asked if I would come over and take some photos. I don’t have anything in the way of off camera lighting so my dad and I build a “light tent” with some PVC piping and desk lamps. It’s a pretty cool setup.

These are some of my favorites from our shoot.

The Fam

I don’t get to see my brother and his family as much as I’d like, so when we get together I always try to take a few snaps to record memories. Here are some of the moments captured over Christmas!

First Post

Hey there! This is my first post in my new photo blog. Yee haw. I’ll be posting redmoon related photos here in my blog as well as some of the more interesting things that I’ve found through my camera viewfinder lately.
